Last night's dinner was not quite as successful. I didn't take my phrase book with me, Claudia was not there to translate and the menu was all in German, none of which I recognised, except Wiener Schnitzel, pommes frittes and salad. However not wanting to be boring or unappreciative, I followed Walter's recommendation and had a Tyrolean specialty.

Not a good move. I should have chosen what I knew. The dumplings were strange to say the least. One with Cheese, one with funghi and one with spinach, which was the most palatable. I managed to eat that one. It was all swimming in melted butter, not too good for my cholestrol level. It was obviously an acquired taste.
But it was all served out on a terrace, in front of a lovely old guesthouse, again with flowers spilling out of window boxes and in a peaceful cul de sac, set against the mountain and forest. We watched the sun go down over the mountain and castle which dominate the town.

Claudia reappeared half way through dinner. She is in training for a marathon in October.
A two hour run was on yesterday's training schedule. She ran over the border to Germany, and back in time for dinner. Amazing!

Today we are going into Germany, to an island on a lake, to see a famous Bavarian palace. A sunny day, a boat trip and hopefully a yummy Bavarian lunch!
