Bath, Roman Baths and Abbey

Our B&B in Bath was Vila Magdala. Very comfortable, if very flowery! The hotel inspector may have had words to say about it, but I think she would have approved of the cleanliness and the facilities.
Our room was a vision of roses. But very clean and the beds, very comfy. The breakfast was a treat. It was only a few minutes walk to the Pulteney Bridge and centre of town.
I last visited Bath in 2005 and it hasn't changed much. No one is allowed to change it! All new buildings are built in the Bath stone, a lovely creamy pink colour.

The one big change is that the Roman BAths have been redeveloped into a major tourist attaction and very well done too. It retains the atmosphere of the baths as it was, so long ago. It is not hard to imagine coming around a corner to find the Romans lolling about. The individual audio commentary has comments from Bill Bryson at various pooints and that was a highlight, for both Lynda and myself.

We retired to the Pump Room for a cup of tea, for Lynda and a hot chocolate for me. Very expensive of course, but it has to be done on a visit to Bath. Jane Austen frequented the rooms no doubt observing and absorbing the traits and characteristics of her fellow visitors. As we were due to go for dinner at the Hole in the Wall restaurant later, we didnt go for the full afternoon tea, which looked superb. Just as well! You would not need dinner after that lot.
